"I joined the Singapore Monologue Slam because I wanted to be brave and take the risk and push myself in a field that I have not been in for awhile. Singapore Monologue Slam 2017 (SMS) is a great platform for aspiring actors and anyone who wants to push themselves to be vulnerable and explore the different perspectives and character perspectives especially.
The challenge that I have faced as a contestant of SMS is knowing what drives the piece, what drives not just the character but the actor to perform the piece. I think that the Masterclasses and being part of the entire experience really helps you examine that beyond the words on the paper.
If I had any advice for actors out there, I would say, you should be brave, and being brave is not the absence of fear, it is doing the things that scare you. And put yourself out there! It’s important to take different perspective on things and acting helps you to also put yourself in someone else’s shoes and explore. If you are interested in human behaviour and all of that, you should really put yourself out there.
Join SMS the next time it comes around and be inspired by the people that have put in their hard work for the show!"
