About Us

Picture
We hope to:
  • Diversify the practice of theatre in Singapore
  • Present a platform for young people to showcase their skills, regardless of their level of expertise
  • Discover talented young actors and performers and raise their profile on the public stage
  • Engage the Singaporean audience in a theatre-going culture
  • Provide opportunities for writers, performers and creators to network, collaborate and learn from one another

Produced By

Picture
Established in 2014, Method Productions is a presenting production company and the sister company of Haque Centre of Acting and Creativity (HCAC). We were first established to offer creation, distribution and exhibition opportunities for the students and alumni of HCAC. As Method Productions evolves, we aim to be the first presenting and production company in Singapore for all mediums of performing arts.

We are interested in nurturing and supporting both emerging and existing talents for the international stage. As Method Productions further collaborates with other production companies and collectives, we continue taking pride in our reliable artistic direction, production support, performance venue and our diverse talent network.

KAMIL HAQUE
Producer

Kamil Haque is the founder of Haque Centre of Acting & Creativity (HCAC), Singapore’s first professional acting centre. Kamil graduated top of his class from the American Music & Drama Academy (AMDA) with a BA(Hons) in Acting. Kamil is the first Singaporean and the only Asian at that time to train and teach at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute (LSTFI). He is currently the only coach in Asia experienced in teaching the Strasberg Method of Acting.

As a producer, Kamil has helmed the inaugural edition of the monologue slam for Company of Angels, Los Angeles’ oldest repertory theatre company. He was also the festival consultant and producer for the inaugural edition of the ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards (AIFFA) in Kuching, Malaysia.

SHARON JING YI
Project Manager

Picture
Sharon graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts with a BA(Hons) in Arts Management and started her first film acting gig for her fellow schoolmates' projects.

When an enticing opportunity comes by, she dabbles in various performing platforms such as Closer Apart (directed by Jason Lee) and Unsettling Stones (directed by Zhao Chuan).

While not at the movie theatres, she enjoys curating films for events and fund-raising initiatives, and has co-produced commissioned short films for Singapore Writers Festival. She has previously organized The 48 Hour Film Project Singapore 2014 as well as Shnit International Short Film Festival.

Sharon was a Microbiologist and plays the keyboard/Electone. She utilises her meticulous skills in managing the arts. Quite effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin, Sharon also speaks Japanese and Hokkien.

THOMAS PANG
Ambassador for SMS 2017

Picture
Thomas is an actor and theatremaker from The Bay Area. His training spans graduation from the San Francisco School of the Arts, a year at the Guthrie BFA program, and later LASALLE, where he received a BA(1st Hons) and completed the Taksu workshop in Bali with Aole T. Miller. For his work as a performer, Thomas was nominated ‘Best Actor’ twice at the Life! Theatre Awards for Tribes (2016) and Ophelia (2017). He is now working to add director, theatremaker, teacher, and coach, to his skillset with 4 firsts already under his belt: Apostrophes (Blubricks); Cold Bones No More (Thomas Pang/Think City); “Presence: Awaken Your True Voice” (Ftalent); and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (LASALLE). Thomas is opening his “Presence” workshops in Kuala Lumpur in May, and looks forward to his collaboration with dancer Lim Pei Ern in early June—an exploration of the binaries masculine/feminine, actor/dancer, self/other, soft/hard, theatre/dance, titled, you/me.

LYNN CHIA
Design & Marketing

RANICE TAY
Stage Manager

Picture
Lynn is an undergraduate student of Wee Kim Wee School of Communications & Information, pursuing an inter-disciplinary major in Journalism and Public Relations. An overly- competitive Track & Field athlete for 11 years, she remains obsessed with sprints, marathons, hill repeats and lifting weights.

She loves all things aesthetic and is a detailed curator of her Instagram feed. A lover of films, painting and lyricism, artistic expression is her therapy – documenting especially of her backpacking trips across North America, the Middle East and Central Asia in visual snippets.

An idealist who wants to change the world, she believes that the theatre is an expressive platform that can strengthen the global educational sphere and improve the way ideas, as currency, are absorbed, re-invented and transferred. She hopes for The Singapore Monologue Slam to be a safe space where participants can be challenged to discover evolving facets of self through creative expression.

Ranice is a Theatre Studies student at the National University of Singapore. Her previous acting projects include The Creation of My Body (Method Productions), That's the Story of My Life (NLB) and FLICKER (Make Space). In 2016, Ranice co-founded her own performance collective, Passerby Projects and performed in its maiden production, LEAVES (written by Lucy Caldwell).

While madly in love with acting, Ranice was actually first introduced to Theatre through Stage Managing, where she used to coordinate numerous arts festivals during her time at Dunman High School. With The Singapore Monologue Slam, she hopes to reignite her enthusiasm for cue sheets and call times.

TRICIA DING
Public Relations & Marketing

ZORA SMITH
Project Assistant

Picture
Picture
Having been actively acting since primary school, Tricia is no stranger to the arts.  She is passionate about theatre and seeks to constantly expand and improve her repertoire of skills. A proud alumni of Pangdemonium's Triple Threats Programme (2016), Tricia is in the midst of pursuing her degree in Theatre Studies at the National University of Singapore.

A proud jack-of-all trades, Tricia enjoys experimenting and learning as she grows. Whilst in the midst of learning the ropes to events management and marketing, Tricia designs, writes and produces in her free time. Her collective Mayfly Stories is also set to perform their debut piece early next year in 2018.

Excited to be part of the team for the upcoming Singapore Monologue Slam, Tricia is excited to witness the growth of the participants in their journey in the competition. She looks forward to seeing the fruits of their creativity and labour on the day of the competition, in spite of it's brevity.
Zora has always been one involved with the performing arts, from singing to dancing to acting. At just the age of 12, she got her first professional job as a TV host on OktoLIVE!. Since then, some of her theatrical works include the role of Abigail Williams in The Crucible and Arturo Ui in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui with School of the Arts, Singapore as well as The Creation of My Body (Method Productions). She has also starred in Okto’s TV musical drama, After School (2013). Currently a scholar with Haque Centre of Acting & Creativity, Zora aims to propel her actor’s journey forward with further training in method acting and developing her upcoming one-woman show.

Having participated in The Singapore Monologue Slam in 2016, Zora is excited to be taking part again, although now behind the scenes. Zora believes that performing is something that can be incredibly freeing and impactful, even with just a 1 minute monologue.

Slams Worldwide

Picture

Monologue Slams are actually really popular overseas.

Like this for example. And this.

It pretty much means watching actors take on different characters for 1-2 minutes each.

(By the way, you can click on the pictures if you want more examples. The pictures don't belong to us though.)

Why are they popular?

Because it means holding the stage alone.

Because there's nothing like having only 2 minutes to make an impression on your judges and audience.

Which is pretty much the crux of acting, if you think about it: can you, as an actor, bring your character to life from the very minute you step on stage?

It's one way to find, support and nurture talent.

We want to bring opportunities like these to Singapore.
That's why we created The Singapore Monologue Slam.

Everyone deserves to be heard.
