“The main reason why I joined the Singapore Slam (SMS) for the second time it's because when I looked back on my previous performances, I felt that those were two monologues that I’ve performed that were already published and I felt that for the second one I felt that I wanted to go for the creative route, sort of like writing my own original piece, it's really good to present a work to call my own.

What I really like about performing is that it gives me the opportunity to remove any barriers and boundaries be it emotional, physical or mental and just fully express myself. Also, what I have learnt during my 11 years at Central Stage, what’s important is having the confidence and pride on doing the work or the piece you love to do and I think that’s important in every aspect of performing.

What I think of SMS, especially the challenges, is the monologue pieces itself and how you present it, perform it, polishing and tweaking it. Like Kamil said, “make it look like a rockstar performance!” So I’m really excited just to see the different pieces that the contestants going to present and I’m definitely looking forward to that.

I have to say my advice that I would give for experienced actors or actors who are just about to start acting is, what’s really important is teamwork - being a team player. Aside from doing monologues which is commonly solo pieces, there are other pieces where they require two people or more so it's up to you guys to communicate, get along with each other and having that form of connection, like make it apparent, start to know who you’re working with and  what their personality is like and also telling you are like. I think getting to know each other and know how everybody works and being on the same page is definitely really important for any piece.

My opinion for the Singapore Monologue Slam, even though I didn't get the chance watch it live but I watched some of the recorded footage, SMS is always filled with surprises and there’s definitely a lot of contestants that will take you by surprise with their performances! That’s what I really like about the Singapore Monologue Slam!”

"I actually joined the Singapore Monologue Slam because my friend asked me to as she did not want to do it alone and I figured it would be a good experience!

I love performing because it just gives me a thrill and I like entertaining people and I like seeing them smile and their reactions towards my performance. But mostly, I like the attention! I think the Singapore Monologue Slam was really a good challenge for me because I have never actually done theater competitively, like I have never step myself up against other people so this was a good learning experience!

My challenges for the Singapore Monologue Slam would be my confidence. I am not that great at trusting myself when it comes to performing, so that was probably one of the great challenges that I have faced.

My advice to aspiring actors would probably is have confidence with yourself, even though it is the thing that I lacked. It is really important to trust yourself and be yourself!"

“The reason why I joined the Singapore Monologue Slam (SMS) is because I just want a little bit of a challenge, especially after attending the first course of Lee Strasberg Introduction to Method Acting.  It opened another set of floodgates and I just really enjoyed doing the monologue and it was something new to me. I just thought why not just challenge myself for a character that is a little obscure, a little bit different and also dark, to really feel what it is like to breathe her in my DNA and have the chance to compete with other amazing talented human beings for something that I have never really done before! This is an exciting and interesting journey that I am taking at the moment.

What I love about performing is I like finding all my little ticks and where my nervous tensions lie every time I practice and if I am still holding this tensions. Every single time I do it, it is like a new discovery so I like challenging myself out there and just trying to iron those kinks out, detect the mice that lives in my little bones.

My challenges would be just really preparing myself for what it is like to actually be in front of the audience because it is one thing to practice in the shower or when you're chopping the vegetables and it is another thing to be in front of all these people and have that whole ambiance. So I just think I need to prepare myself for that, instead of relying myself on just the practice and the repetitions I have done at home.

I’m very excited to get started and to get going!"
