"I joined SMS because I thought it would be a good way to expose myself to the theatre industry outside of school and CCA, so I thought this way a good way to see what is like outside the school setting. What I like about performing is that is so versatile, you are one person off stage but when you come on stage, you can be a million different people and finding your way to become that character is always a journey and I think that is a great journey.
So I thought it would be a good way for me to find a way into the performing arts industry in Singapore, which is also why the reasons why I joined. I think my challenges would be, in terms of the competition it would be the other participants. But I think in general for just getting into the theatre industry because for Singapore it is still very small so like kind of finding my way to it would be a challenge.
My message to all aspiring actors, what I have learnt from other people is that you really need to get yourself out there as no one going to push you into it. You will have to make your own efforts to find your own competitions, finding things participate and that is how you break into the industry and differentiate you from other people.
Singapore Monologue Slam was a good starting point. It’s a good way to learn from other people and to also learn from your own mistakes and from other people's mistakes. If coming to SMS is something that you really feel strongly about and this is something that you are able to walk on and also able to develop yourself then it would serve you as a stepping stone and also the determination to prove yourself."
