"The reason I joined the Singapore Monologue Slam (SMS) this year is because I have bad stage fright but at the same time I am also very passionate when it comes to acting so it’s a fun challenge. What I love about performing is the interaction between many people, like the interaction between the playwright and the actor and directors and the audience. There’s a lot going on, and it also it opens a very friendly door to many discussions that might be hard to talk about outside of the stage, and with the entertainment value it is also a lot easier to absorb. As well as just enjoying being other people, that’s also a lot of fun!
SMS is a great platform for all actors and anyone who is interested in acting, or people who just want to try something fun. It’s a challenge you don’t usually get in our everyday lives and it’s a great way to build a community of people with similar interests or just want to tell stories or get something out there. It’s very open to many different kinds of interpretations and opportunities.
My challenges for SMS would be definitely my stage fright, calming my nerves and quieting the voices in my head but still delivering a strong piece.
My message to all aspiring actors is to just do it! Get all the courage you can get and whatever you have, and if you want to do it just do it! Don’t think too much about it!"
